Abstract

The study examined the impact of national agricultural growth schemes on small and medium scale enterprises performance in Igabi local government area, Kaduna state. The specific objectives were to; Find out how National Agricultural Growth Scheme's Agro-Pocket Project enhance the development of Small-Scale Rice Farmers in Igabi Local Government Area; Determine how National Agricultural Growth Scheme' Agro-Pocket Project Improved the development of Small-Scale Maize Farmers in Igabi Local Government Area. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The study randomly selected 256farmers in Igabi local government area. The study used a validated structured questionnaire for data collection, while data were analysed descriptively using frequency, mean and standard deviation. The study found out that there is continuous improvements in agricultural support programs that enhances the development of Small-Scale Rice Farmers in Igabi Local Government Area. Also highlights the significant role played by the Agro-Pocket Project in transforming the development of Small-Scale Maize Farmers in Igabi Local Government Area. The findings indicate that most respondents strongly agreed (Mean = 3.70, SD = 0.41) that the project improved access to quality rice seeds. Furthermore, 90% of the respondents agreed that enhanced training and skill development had benefited rice farmers (Mean = 3.65, SD = 0.40). This is consistent with the findings of Aina and Omonona (2022), who highlighted that improved access to inputs significantly boosts agricultural productivity. However, despite these positive outcomes, market access remains challenging, as indicated by the lower mean score (Mean = 2.9, SD = 0.35). This suggests that additional policies are needed to facilitate better linkages between rice farmers and buyers.
