Abstract

This study assesses the effect of strategic leadership on the performance of ICPC using survey data collected by means of questionnaire on three strategic leadership constructs and enforcement activities as a performance variable. Ex-post facto research design was adopted to address the research question and hypotheses. Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was utilized as inferential statistical tool to test the hypotheses for the purposes of making inferences using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Results of the inferential statistics revealed that strategic leadership has strong positive correlation with performance of the Commission in its enforcement mandate measured in terms of numbers of corruption petitions received, corruption investigations concluded cases prosecuted and monetary value of assets and cash recovered by the Commission during the implementation of the ICPC Strategic Plans, 2004-2008 and 2013-2017. The implication of these findings is that public organizations could improve their performance through successive regimes of strategic leadership practices. The study recommends that the ICPC put succession plan in place to guarantee successive strategic leadership practices in the Commission.
