Abstract

One of the greatest challenges facing the Nigerian economy today is poverty. This pervasive social and economic problem has prompted past governments to introduce the N-Power programme to alleviate poverty across Nigeria, including in Niger State. The study examines the challenges in the implementation of N-Power Programme on poverty reduction in Niger State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted, with the population adjusted to 20,000 beneficiaries who have participated in N-Power programmes. The study reveals that factors such as financial instability, irregular stipend payments, inadequate funding, weak institutional structures, and political interference constitute significant constraints to the effective implementation of the NPower programme in Niger State.. The study concludes that while the N-Power programme has provided opportunities for skill development and temporary employment, its overall effectiveness in reducing poverty has been limited by administrative, financial, and structural challenges. It is therefore recommended that institutional frameworks be strengthened to enhance transparency, accountability, and regular disbursement of stipends, alongside the introduction of a structured postprogramme transition plan to promote long-term sustainability and impact.
