Abstract
The performance of manufacturing companies in the developing countries is reflected by their survival
and competitiveness in the present dynamic business environment. Unfortunately, these companies are
facing supply chain related challenges which can only be overcome by adopting appropriate supply
chain management practices and value creation strategies. The aim of this conceptual paper is to
explore the effect of supply chain management practices (in forms of strategic supplier partnership,
customer relationship and level of information sharing) and the value creation strategies (in forms of
collaboration and integration) on the financial performance of manufacturing companies in Nigeria.
The literature review was designed primarily as a descriptive study to provide information on the
existing supply chain management practice, value creation strategies and organization performance
status of the area under investigation. A desktop review was carried out to identify features of supply
chain management practices and value creation strategies and their importance in the perspective of
organization performance. An inclusive approach is used for designing an effective framework for the
application supply chain management practices and value creation strategies using System and
Dynamic capabilities theories. The findings of the study would serve as a guide for future studies on
the significant role of adopting supply chain management practices and value-creation strategies for
achieving high financial performance for manufacturing companies and other sectors in Nigeria and
other developing countries.
