Abstract

This study examines audit firm attributes and financial reporting quality of listed Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in Nigeria for the period of thirteen years, 2011-2023. The study adopted correlation research design and a census sample of 13 listed deposit money banks (DMBs) on the floor of Nigerian Exchange Group as at 31st December, 2023. Secondary data from the firms' annual audited financial reports of the sampled banks was used. The data was analyzed using the multiple regression model. From the use of a Panel Corrected Standard Errors (PCSEs) the results reveal that, audit firm tenure was significantly positive on financial reporting quality of listed DMBs in Nigeria at 10% significance threshold. Whereas, audit firm compensation and audit firm size were insignificantly positively on financial reporting quality of listed DMBs in Nigeria. Based on the findings, the study recommended that, listed DMBs in Nigeria should reduce the period of rotation of audit firms. In addition, banks should not pay unnecessarily high fees to audit firms with the expectation that it will result to high quality financial report.
